What should I wear for my photography session?

One of the most common questions I get before a family photography session is, "What should we wear?" It's a great question, and my main goal is always for your photos to reflect who your family truly is – your unique personalities and your authentic style. You want to look back at these memories and see you, not a version of yourselves dressed in something that feels totally unlike you.

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing. If you're constantly tugging at an outfit or feeling self-conscious, it will show in your photos. Choose clothes that allow you to move freely, play with your kids, and just be yourselves. A good rule of thumb is to avoid anything with large logos, busy patterns, or character prints. These can be distracting and take the focus away from the beautiful connections within your family.

When it comes to colors, think about mixing it up a bit! Neutrals are always a fantastic choice, but that doesn't mean everyone has to wear beige. Try incorporating a few different shades and complementary colors. Imagine a palette of soft blues, creams, and a touch of olive green, or perhaps some earthy tones like terracotta and mustard with denim. While black can be a very stylish color, it can sometimes appear a bit harsh in photos, so consider opting for softer, richer tones instead. Ultimately, the best outfits are the ones that make you feel like the best version of your family!

If I’m capturing your family in the comfort of your own home, think relaxed and authentic. Loungewear that's still stylish, soft knits, comfortable jeans, or simple dresses can be perfect. The goal is to show your family in your natural environment, so choose outfits that you'd genuinely wear while hanging out at home.

Outdoor Adventures For outdoor sessions, the location and the weather will often guide your choices. For a session in the warmer weather, flowy fabrics and lighter colors often look amazing. For a park or bush setting, earthy tones and textures can blend beautifully with the natural backdrop. Always consider the weather forecast – layers are your friend if it's cool, and lighter, breathable fabrics are best for warmer days. I want you to be comfortable, no matter what nature throws at us!
